Just catching up with some of the completed work that was finished up in the last couple of lazy weeks I've not posted! The pink star sapphire ring that began in my last post was finally completed, below. It was interesting to create a ring structure fully composed of silver wire. It was more difficult than I thought it would be to press down the prongs. Those things are strong!
And then an interesting custom order came into the shop. A customer was looking to transform a ring that she had into a charm/pendant. First, the stone was removed from her original ring and the gold was melted down. Next it was rolled out into gold wire, then transformed into the structure of the setting and prongs of a new charm. To complete it, the stone was re-set. It was a pretty smokey quartz. Below is the newly created charm setting. It was an interesting transformation.
Lastly in this catch-up post is a cocktail ring that I finished up. I chose a synthetic Alexandrite which is a color changing stone. Basically, depending on whether the stone is seen in incandescent or natural light, it may appear to be cranberry, deep purple, or charcoal gray in color. Very saturated in color and fun to carry around and hold up to light! The ring was simple in design with a small lace accent on the side of the stone. Here are some process pictures and the final ring, below.
Sawing down part of the ring shank.
Pre-polished before stone setting.
Done and done - for now. More to come this week!
